What’s On at Gibside
Park Run
Whether you’re new to running, a youngster or an Olympic athlete, all runners are welcome at Gibside parkrun, a free 5km timed run every Saturday at 9am.
It’s an opportunity to enjoy running in a historic garden where the background noise includes birdsong, perhaps a lawnmower or two, and not much else. The route will take you along the avenue road, past the Hall ruin, through the woodland to make your way back to the beginning. If you’re new to parkrun and need to register, please visit the parkrun website: www.parkrun.org.uk

Meet your guide outside the café for a 30 minute talk about one of the 6 topics. The guides are very knowledgeable and keen to answer your questions.
Please note this tour is volunteer led, occasionally tours may be cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
History Walk
Join a history walk for a glimpse into the past. The vision of coal baron George Bowes, Gibside is one of the few surviving 18th century designed landscape gardens. Gibside’s story is one of tragedy, scandal and triumph.
Have you ever wanted to know more about Gibside? Maybe you’re interested in the Bowes family, George Bowes was the Great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of the queen and Mary Eleanor Bowes was Georgian Britain’s richest heiress. Maybe you remember Gibside before it was National Trust or perhaps you’re curious as to why the hall is a ruin. Our history walk leaders are very knowledgeable about Gibside’s past and will do their best to answer your questions.
Please note this tour is volunteer led, occasionally tours may be cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
